Resident Evil: Afterlife (3D)

Alice is back once again kicking ass, slaying zombies and bound to destroy the Umbrella Corporation, and she got a help from an old friend!

The city is already dominated by the undead due to an outbreak of infection. But she's discovered survivors and has to save and relocate them to safety, to a place called Arcadia.

The movie is intended for 3D and it was a great experience! This installment is the one which I enjoyed the most. The techno background music in the action sequences is engaging and added "coolness". I only noticed that the slow motion effects are a bit overused. Anyway, watch out for an extra scene after about a minute of the credits.

Starring: Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller

Jump Rope Dancing

Jump rope and dance exhibition? Oh my gosh! I am completely blown away by the performance of this group, Saltare (Sal-tuh-ré), who just did such. Do you watch America's Best Dance Crew (ABDC) Season 5? Here's their mind-boggling performance, watch this:

Isn't THAT cool?! I think it is simply genius of them, how they neatly executed and collaborated jump rope and dancing! It is truly artistic and entertaining. Really awesome, don't you think? I don't remember how many times I have said "wow" while watching them. The only thing I could do on a jump rope is basic skipping!

Peanut Butter Company

Peanut butter has been one of people's favorite comfort foods! Aside from sandwiches, peanut butter is also used as an ingredient in cakes, chocolate bars, and other dishes.

"Spreading Life's Simple Comforts", this is what Peanut Butter Company (PB Co.) is all about. This little restaurant offers a variety of special sandwiches, pasta, and chicken.

On the menu, they have: Marshmallow Peanut Butter Sandwich, White Chocolate Orange Sandwich, Black Forest Sandwich, and other sandwiches in the menu which might surprise you, such as: Peanut Butter BLT Sandwich (tomato peanut butter, bacon, lettuce, tomato), Peanut Butter Burger sandwich (sesame peanut butter, lettuce, tomato, peanut cucumber mayo). Maybe you're thinking "how does all those stuff taste like with peanut butter?!".

If you are feeling a bit adventurous when it comes to food, everything in the menu will surely tickle your fancy. I tried the Elvis, The King Sandwich which is really yummy! It has crunchy peanut butter, bacon, and banana. I was so excited as I took my first bite! The taste of the peanut butter mildly emulsifies the saltiness of the bacon and the sweetness of the banana. And it is really really good!

Despicable Me

Here comes a story about a villain versus another villain: The main character, Gru, wanted to steal the moon for his greatest achievement against his rival villain named Victor, who already succeeded in stealing the pyramid in Egypt. And now, that Gru has to do (oh it rhymed!) is to go to the moon, shrink the moon, and grab it. But he has to get the Shrink Ray from Victor first who is already also planning to steal the moon. Along his plan, he met three (3) little kids who he adopted and which he initially planned to set them as an accomplice to get inside Victor's house and get the Shrink Ray.

The story is light yet very heart-warming. Prepare for a really good fun and laughter and fall in love with the characters. I swear! Especially the little girl, Agnes, is simply adorable. But my favorite is the little Minions which are so cute and hilarious!

Cast: (Voices) Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Julie Andrews

Food Destinations in Iloilo

Hundred of years ago, Iloilo was called Irong-Irong or Ilong-Ilong, which means "nose" since the shape of the Iloilo river is shaped like a nose:

Speaking of "ilong" or nose, did you know that our sense of smell affects our tastes? That is why we can't taste anything when we have a cold, right? Anyway, ANYWAY! Since I was not able to visit enough places in Iloilo, I did not miss a chance to taste the good foods it has to offer (sabay segue ng ganun?hehe). So without further ado, here's the list of where and/or what I ate during my trip:

Perri Todd's
Well, this was the very first thing that I had as soon as I arrived. I tried their Burger Cheesemelt with Mushroom and oh my gosh! IT IS huge! You will see the brimming mushrooms over the burger patty topped with cheese. Yummy! I guess it was about 10 inches in diameter? One order of this colossal burger is actually good for 2 persons.

Dulgies Desserts and Cafe
If you have a sweet tooth like me, you might want to try dining in this little fancy place. They serve cakes, pastries, and sandwiches. The cakes! Oh wow! Feels like heaven! hehe
Talaba
Back in my friend's place, we had 3 plastic bags full of talaba which only costs around Php25 per bag. This is not a usual delicatessen in Manila so I was enthusiastic to try it. The talaba is boiled to cook. Then you'd just take out the meat from the shell, dip it in vinegar and eat it! They said that drinking softdrinks or beer go well with this.
WARNING: Make sure that you don't have an empty stomach before eating this or you'll be spending your vacation in the toilet.

Barrio Inasal

Andok's Manok, Mang Inasal, Chicken Bacolod, Chooks-to-go... chicken is all around! Other than those restaurants, you might want to try dining in Barrio Inasal. The al fresco dining which gives you a very nice cool breeze while eating and having fun conversation with your friends or family.
Smallville
Smallville's probably the first thing that will come to most Ilonggo's mind if you as then to take you for a night out experience. This place is pretty much like Metrowalk in Ortigas. They have some resto-bars in one place. MO2 is most popular, they have disco too! (uhm, wait, is the word "disco" still used nowadays? Or we just simply use the word "bar"?) Anyway, I remember their set up of a machine-operated "abaniko" lined on the ceiling which keeps the place cool. Pirate's restobar is also an eye catcher with its flamboyant theme and loud music.
MO2's Abanikos

Escar's Garden Restaurant
The place welcomes you into this homey place and offers these really good Filipino dishes. We had Chicken Binakol, Pork Sisig, and Squid Curry which was all mouth-watering!
So there you have it! My food destinations in Iloilo. Special thanks to Jay and Rina for touring me around town, and also to Trish.

Bicol Food Trip

After a very long drive from Lucena. We dropped by Bigg's Diner to have breakfast. It is this old western inspired diner with really colorful and fun ambiance. The appeal of the place would pretty much capture the taste of many and a lot of fastfood chains would run for their money. Aside from burger and fries, they also serve tapsilog and tosilog and other pinoy favorites for breakfast!

Bicolanos are known to have this appetite for hot and spicy foods. In Let's Special Pinangat (restaurant) in Camalig they serve -well, what else but Pinangat, it is made in gabi leaves and mixed with coconut extract. Bicol Express is also one of Bicol's trademark food and our order was served in this little plate, almost like a saucer! But when we tasted it -oh my goodness! It's super dooper spicy! You can also buy frozen pinangat here.

Pinangat

Oh you should also try the Laing in tita Mila's restaurant. It is the best Laing I have ever had so far, hands down! And their Bopis is good as well! Hay! They also have a wide variety of goods made of Pili nuts such us Pili Polvoron, Pilietas, Bombones, cakes, etc. Mila's Restaurant is located at a gas station along Maharlika Highway in Pili, CamSur. Cagsawa buses usually stop over this place.

Cagsawa Ruins, Albay

It was drizzling when we arrived there. The skies fortunately cleared after a while and the clouds finally showed off the amazing site of the Mayon volcano with the Cagsawa tower at the facade. They have this some sort of superstition that if you get a clear view of the Mayon volcano then it means that you are welcome in Bicol, something like that. I remember that I only used to see and read about this tourist attraction not only in postcards but in our books and also when we went to Nayong Filipino for a field trip way back in grade school. But at last! There I was, standing in front of that spectacular view, the astounding landmark of Bicol... in front of the real thing! I was simply like "wow"! I mean really, "wow!"

We feel fortunate that the view of the Mayon volcano is clear

There were these group of young people near the entrance who would approach you and would voluntarily escort you in the park and would even give some brief introductions about certain parts of the ruins on which we are stepping on. The Cagsawa church was engulfed by the flowing lava when the Mayon volcano erupted in 1814. The arches at the side of the ruins are in fact the windows already. Not only these kids gave us a tour, but they also offered to take pictures of us and even suggested to create some camera tricks with the tower in the background. Here's how it looked:

Not bad eh? The entrance is filled with souvenir shops where you can buy T-shirts, accessories, and other stuffs. Here's what I got:

Vampire Movies

Vampires are mythical creatures who exist by sucking the life out of living creatures... sucking blood, that is. You can geek yourself about vampires here.

There are so many movies out there about vampires, which one is your favorite?

Here's my TOP 5 PICK on vampire movies, in no particular order (or maybe close):

1. INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE
Who could not ever put this on the list? You got Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, plus an award-winning breakthrough performance from Kirsten Dunst! I think this is simply the best.
2. QUEEN OF THE DAMNED
Here's another from Anne Rice. Although this was pretty much about the vampire Lestat, which was played by the hottie Stuart Townsend, Aaliyah left a really riveting performance in this movie.
3. BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA
I find this movie visually haunting with wild, bloody, pure scary scenes. Magnificent actors... oh wait, Keanu Reeves?

Go get him Dracula
4. VAN HELSING
"It's alive! It's alive!" A classic line from Dr. Frankenstein, I just love saying it. Notice Kate Beckinsale's efforrrt on the Trrransilvanian accent in the movie. It's just oh-so-goody!

5. MR. VAMPIRE
Never heard of it? Well, this is a Chinese film. But in some ways it did not manage to scare me, it just made me laugh so hard that I even craved to see the second installment of this. Crazy? Hehe.

So there you have it! No, I am not a fan of the Twilight Saga. The movie may be good, but the story? Oh c'mon! Anyway, here's an upcoming funny treat for the not-so-Twihards... or whatever you call them... Vampires Suck!
